Barking Mad about Dog Dance DVD

Victoria from USA wrote the following about our clicker DVD:

"Hallo, Hetty!!

I really wanted to convey to you was able to finish viewing the clicker training video and it's EXCELLENT!! CONGRATULATIONS on such HARD WORK, it really shows.

Now I am not a gusher, in fact my job really requires more critique than compliment, so I don't say things lightly or merely to make people feel good, so when I tell you I was really impressed, I mean it. I found myself riveted, watched several portions twice, especially the targeting sections.  I am also laughing at my stupid tricks to train Prince the hard way...like using a laser light (which he will attack) to get him to close a door.  Hilarious when I could be doing the notepad technique instead.  I learned SO MUCH - you have me totally excited about clicker training again.

I really wish I had written down what I thought as I went through the video, here are some impressions, just remember my priorities are almost the opposite of many viewers. First, it is a very professional video.  I felt it's presentation, colours, graphics, and music is excellent.  Of ALL the clicker videos I have ever seen, yours is the first to actually show the thinking process the dogs go through and in particular, how rough it can be and that that is okay and a period you work through.  This was ENORMOUSLY helpful as most clicker programs make it look TOO easy, then you think you are failing when your dog does not quite get it.  And the excitement and enthusiasm you create in the dogs is superb, just outstanding.  You use a play-based technique which I think is very much what you are doing and it looks very powerful.

Of great interest was your instruction on the non motivational check, this was new to me, and intensely thought-provoking as is by far the number one question I have sometimes, i.e., how to handle each INDIVIDUAL failure when a dog should know what is expected or just needs to try again.

I found the variety of what you taught in here excellent. Your clicker training DVD is just packed, it offers far more than others. On a personal note, putting a voice to "Hetty" and seeing all the dogs and knowing some of their stories was also enormous fun, enjoyed it very much. You look like you enjoy what you are doing and I really felt high commitment and intense persistence which I admire and feel must be copied to be successful.  Your video really truly makes the viewer feel empowered, you leave the viewing experience realizing how much more you can accomplish, and how much more positively you can do it.

Finally, I got a kick out of - and feel it added a great deal to the video, when the cat walked by whilst you were training the take and hold to Koda.  That made me laugh and I liked the spontaneity of it.  The entire video has such a sense of genuineness to it because you show moments where things with the dogs are not perfect.  It was IMMENSELY HELPFUL to see that it is okay for things to be this way as you progress, that it's even a normal step, and that you are working for the long-term.  Then when you show the smooth, finished result I think it has very powerful and lasting instructional effect.

I am very excited about watching the Barking Mad about Dog Dance DVD now to pick up your training on the heeling part. I am tremendously grateful to have been able to order these DVDs at this moment, they have already helped my thinking and have come at perfect timing for some problems I was having, particularly in striking objects (such as automatic door markers for the disabled) and also built my sense of being able to use clicker training for whatever application we may need.  Can't say thanks enough for making these, I'm sure they will help many others as they have me. :-)

Very sincerely and happiest training,

-Victoria "
