just had the pleasure of watching Hetty's Barking Mad about Dog
Dance DVD today! What a treat! Her training segments are short,
clear and do-able. She takes you through some of the beginner
basics with training hand touch, follow and keep going training,
as well as others. One thing I really like about her DVD is that
you watch her train with her dog without any interruption. Then,
she goes back and does the voice over for that section and
includes it so you hear what she is doing as it happens. It
makes it very clear to understand. And I appreciate that she was
totally "there" for her dog. So often when we demo or try to
train, we are challenged to articulate our points while trying
to stay focused with our dog.
She then has a heel work section where she shares some nice
training techniques to help with our heelwork. Another really
excellent tool she employs is to show the exact time that the
dog should be clicked. I won't give any more details about that,
but one word of caution...:- )....If your dogs are in the room
with you, they are likely to first come to you looking for a
treat. And if they are not forthcoming, they might begin
offering behaviours to the television! :-)))) Mahalo was pulling
out everything from his freestyle bag of tricks to try to figure
out how to get a treat. Too cute. Even my parrot, Gaia, who was
on his play stand in the family room kept doing his leg kicks
and wondering where the pistacio was; his favourite reward. ( He
is slowly becoming a clicker trained parrot.)
Hetty then has a nice section on what she calls "Dance Dog
Elements" and shows several of her now famous moves. And you get
to meet all the Barking Mad Divas; (Border Collies) and Hetty
too. One other discovery I made; or perhaps forgot along the way
somewhere, is that Hetty is a Veterinary Surgeon.!!!! And I
really enjoyed her lovely accent in the voice over of the DVD.
Thanks to Hetty for making this contribution to the freestyle
community! I will definitely recommend it to others. The only
disappointment for me was that Hetty didn't include any of her
routines on the DVD. I was so looking forward to sharing some of
her creativity with my classes or at our Friday Freestyle Flick
evenings. Wags, Loren
